Lord Narasimha, Half lion half man. According to Vedic ancient philosophy He defends and protects His followers (devotees) from evil. He is an avatar of the 4th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Godhead of our universe.
There is an old story of His appearance. He came to protect his devotee Prahlada and creatively destroys Prahlada’s demonic father and tyrant Hiranyakashipu who has tried to kill Prahlada many times using different methods to kill his son.
Typically Lord Narasimha is shown as furious creature destroying everything on His path but this image represents a peaceful aspect of Lord Narasimha.

“Hiranyakashipu began to carefully look at Nrsimhadeva standing in front of him, trying to understand who he was. The Lord in this form was truly terrible: His angry eyes looked like molten gold in color; the huge and terrible face seemed even larger from the shining mane surrounding him; the bared teeth inspired mortal fear, and the tongue, like a sharp sword in the hands of a warrior, constantly moved from side to side. His motionless ears stood upright, his nostrils and open mouth resembled mountain caves, and his open jaws caused horror. Nrsimhadeva’s body touched the sky. He had a very short and thick neck, a wide chest and a thin waist, and his body was covered with hairs as silvery as moonlight. His hands, which resembled an army of brave warriors, extended in all directions, for He destroyed all demons and other atheistic scoundrels with His weapons — disc, mace, shell, lotus and so on.” — SB 7.8.19-22
