Elon Musk – Friend to Truckers?

Elon Musk New Driverless Truck Tesla Motors

Elon Musk, the eccentric billionaire behind Tesla Motors and SpaceX owns the domain Liar.com, which currently redirects to Justin Trudeau’s Wikipedia page. There was also a donation from “www.liar.com” to the Canadian Freedom Convoy’s GoFundMe page – for $42,069. He has also been tweeting out non-stop support for the Canadian truckers participating in the convoy.

On the surface, it looks like Elon Musk is just using his media presence and money to push a cause he likes. After all, many people over the world are watching what is happening in Ottawa, and many support the people acting against the government. Why does a government need to impose vaccine mandates when 90% of the population is already vaccinated? Especially since it just creates more hassle for everyone else – if you’re vaccinated, you now have to show your QR code everywhere. That’s just pointless bureaucracy at the very least, and a deeply concerning encroachment on our freedoms.

It’s also worth noting though, that Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla Motors. And Tesla Motors is currently working on an electric semi truck. What’s more, is that there are rumours that this semi-truck will have driverless functionality – there are talks of testing the autonomous feature in Nevada. And Tesla is meeting California officials “to talk about Tesla’s efforts with autonomous trucks”.

In light of this information, Tesla’s support of the Freedom Convoy becomes more suspect. Sure, it could be that he both believes in the cause and he is also developing self-driving trucks. But it’s also something that benefits him and his company. Self-driving trucks can’t decided to go on a protest, and cripple the nation’s supply lines. And the governments all over the world are watching this, and learning just how vulnerable they are to citizens voicing their opinions. If Tesla does his part to put oil in the fire so to speak, that makes governments all over the world more eager to fund the development of self-driving trucks – and he profits!

I guess self driving trucks will not replace completely human driven trucks, not even close. Rather application of self driving trucks will be quite limited, they will be used in deserts & similar places where regular traffic is almost nonexistent, just due to safety reasons. Or they may be used on special roads/ parts of the roads, also in remote areas. Yes, Musk can use circumstances toward his business advantage, but such is life… after all U believe other companies also developing robotic trucks. Good article:)
