TOP GUN means one who is at the top (as in ability, rank, or prestige) or a most important person (VIP). The Navy generally uses the TOPGUN name as a single word when referring to the squadron, officially called the Navy Fighter Weapons School. Some Navy people use two words – TOP GUN. It was not a big deal in the 1980s but now has become more formalized as one word and usually in all caps: TOPGUN.
Regarding the famous TOP GUN movie 1986, the screenplay was written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. and was inspired by an article titled “Top Guns”, written by Ehud Yonay and published in California magazine in 1983. This is the story of a skilled but selfish pilot Maverick and his partner Goose who are assigned to go to Top Gun, a military school for top-notch pilots. Soon Maverick has an affair with the instructor Charlie and a rivalry with Ice Man and Slider. But when Goose dies in an accident, Maverick decides to quit the TOPGUN school.
TOP GUN MAVERICK sequel tells us that after thirty years, Maverick is still a top naval aviator, but must confront ghosts of his past when he leads TOP GUN’s elite graduates on a dangerous mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those chosen to fly it.
Top Gun: Hard Lock is a video game released for the PS3, Xbox 360, & PC. It was developed by Headstrong Games and published by 505 Games. It features Maverick, Iceman, Merlin, & Jester as supporting characters, The Top Gun video game has 14 missions & planes.
